So, if anyone would like to take part in SUNY New Paltz’s newest club, the T.P. Online Magazine, I would be beyond myself with joy :D

The T.P. (which is soon to be renamed, because we kind of hate the name XD) is an online resource for information pertaining to news, culture, media, technology and sports and we need writers, artists, web designers and developers, photographers, musicians, and just about anyone with free time. :D

It’s cool if you have no experience in any of the mentioned topics, but if you do, don’t hold out on us D: Our doors are open to everyone and we want as diverse a staff as possible - so whatever you’re interested in, contact us and we can find a place for you on our team. :)

// ACTUALLY READ THIS GUYS, it’s important. //

It is with regret that me and Kellie have decided to not do the SUNY New Paltz Tumblr University. Thank you guys for showing your interest online.  But, since  our first GI there were no results, and the second only three people… (Thanks to you guys, if you’re still around!)  We have decided that maybe the world is not ready for Tumblr University..

BUT, we don’t want to shut this down completely.

I have talked to some people about this club, or rather this tumblr. Some people’s expectations were that this was a tumblr that spread New Paltz events to keep  students informed. That was not our intention. Our intention was to try to get students involved with current issues while tumblin.

HOWEVER:

Maybe that is exactly what this tumblr can be. It has about 50 followers. If someone wants to take over this tumblr to spread New Paltz information, message this tumblr, or message my tumblr. (Simplygracee) which I will give you the password and the email that goes along with this.

If not, then I guess feel free to unfollow.

Well, I guess we can say we tried.

As of right now, I don’t think there is any existance of the new paltz tumblr club for this semester. But please, if you would  really like to see one, let us know what we can do to get you involved.

// Since I’m procrastinating writing my last paper of the semester,//

I figured I’d check up on this old here tumblr.

Again, we are going to try to start up next semester, but we want to hear from you. What would you like to see out of the new paltz tumblr club?  How often should we have meetings? etc. We are open to suggestions.

Our ask is open. Let us know!

Otherwise, I hope your winter break goes well and that you enjoy the time off from papers and studying hard :]

Since we have no submissions, and we are more than halfway into the semester, we are going on a hiatus until  next semester.

Feel free to leave suggestions of what we should talk about or try to change next semester.

Hopefully, next semester will be better than this one (in regards to the club)

To refresh everyone’s memories, we will post a topic once a week.

Submit a topic between the first post, and the last post which will most likely be something like “SUBMISSIONS FOR ____ TOPIC ARE NOW CLOSED.”

Kellie and I will review the submissions once the week is over. We will post a conclusion, basically what the majority of Tumblr University believes on said topic. If it is something we can do as a group collectively for the greater good, then we may organize an event.. Such as if the club support a political leader, we will help them campaign.

But please do remember, that everyone has their own personal opinion. If you don’t agree with someone’s position, do not bash. New Paltz is a school of diversity, and so is the Tumblr University of SUNY New Paltz. If you want to reply and argue your position, that’s fine. Just be respectful.

This all being said:

If anyone saw our signs written near the Academic buildings, close by, there was a sign about fracking. Fracking is a big issue right now. Hydraulic Fracturing, more commonly known as hydro-fracking, is the creation of fissures in underground shale deposits that allow the release of natural gas and oil. To create these fissures water, sand, and other additives are forcefully pumped into the rock and therefore easily allowing the flow of natural gas into pipes. The largest and most prominent shale deposit is the Marcellus shale which extends through western Pennsylvania. Opinions on fracking vary. Supporters view fracking as a way to boost the economy. Also, the natural gas found within the shale is much safer for the environment and can reduce our carbon emissions. However, fracking negatively effects the environment. Large trucks ruin roads while the wells produce water and air pollution. Many residents have sold the “fracking rights” to their land to gain large sums of money; however, the process virtually destroys the property.
